COME OUT TO BE YOURSELF!

xHamster aims to advance the movement for equality. In honor of National Coming Out Day, here are some inspiring stories of iconic people challenging boundaries and stereotypes.

Hanne Gaby Odiele
This fearless fashion star gave voice to something she’d always been told to hide and revealed she is an intersex in an interview with USA TODAY .

Being intersex has given her a forward-thinking perspective on fashion and even helped to create a new style, which Odiele called “just being myself; no rules”.

Now the model is working hard on creating a world where others can be proud of their intersex identities, raising awareness in the mainstream as an ‘Advocates for Intersex Youth’ Ambassador.

Jason Mraz
“I am bi your side,” – the closing line from Jason’s love poem in honor of Gay Pride Month made a big fuss over his sexuality.
Singer says "two spirit" is the best identifier for his sexuality and admits that he’s had experiences with men, even dating the woman, Christina Carano, who became his wife in 2015.

Ivory Aquino
Another bright star of the ABC series revealed that she is transgender, like Cecilia Chung, the character she played.
Ivory was born in the Philippines. She knew from a very young age that she was transgender: "As soon as I was born, I was always a girl; I was just assigned differently at birth." In her mid-teens, she started hormone therapy. She was often bullied at school, but her parents were supportive of her transition. In 2005 Ivory underwent gender-confirmation surgery after which she felt 'complete’. Being authentic self today, she is giving others the room and courage to do so as well.

Eddie Izzard

This English comedian, one of the funniest people alive, Eddie knows all about standing up for his principles. He describes himself as “a straight transvestite, or a male lesbian.” On one occasion, he joked that he is “100% boy, plus extra girl.”
In his raw and honest book ‘Believe Me: a memoir of love, death and jazz chickens’ he depicts what it means to live your truth and to walk through fear over and over again.

Tilda Swinton
Arguably one of the strangest actors in Hollywood, Tilda Swinton identifies herself as a gender fluid , what literally means ‘male and female— and also somewhere in between’.
In interviews, she states, “I don’t know if I could ever really say that I was a girl – I was kind of a boy for a long time. I don’t know, who knows? It changes. However, as an adult, I am probably a woman.”

The power of stories like these, cannot be underestimated.

xHamster is a strong advocate for explicit representation for LGBT and celebrating the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day we remind to all our followers – “No matter what you do in life, one of the most important things is to be true to who you are”.

Truly yours,

How about just being yourself and stop shouting to world how you identify. Most of us don't care. We only want to know if you a good person to joke around with or prick to avoid. Just be whatever you are, learn to be happy with yourself, and stop worrying what everyone else thinks about it or if they approve.

National Coming Out Day is ridiculous. Heterosexuals aren't expected to Come Out to anyone. Why the need to announce to your family or anyone else your position on a subject you'd never discuss with them on a normal basis? Yet another example of people demanding yet more special recognition and preferential treatment. How 'bout this? We replace every National Holiday with a National Family Day? That way everyone gets to spend precious time with those who are their family or those they consider family. Everyone is a winner! Everyone!
